Image Libraries
The image in the image view automatically belongs to a library of images that consists of all the image files in the same file folder as the viewed image file.
The viewing order of images is specified by the sort order of the image library. The sort order of the image library can be changed in all file lists. The most common viewing orders are specified by selecting the file date or the file name in one of the image lists.
Video Clips
The first frame of the video clips in the image library folder is included in the image library. The Play button can be used to play the entire video clip in the default media player.
Image Processing
The Setup Preferences dialogue box makes it possible to select the image processing method for the image view. The high quality image processing method is always used when saving a new version of an image.
The parameters for high quality image processing can be changed in the Setup Preferences dialogue box. Use a higher sampling radius to widen the field of source pixels contributing to a target pixel. As the width of the sampling field increases, the image processing becomes slower. Use the lowpass locus to dampen the contribution from pixels that are far away from the center of the sampling field to avoid sampling artifacts like ringing around image elements.
Image Rotation
Image rotation can for example be used to level a sloping horizon in an image. When the image view is in zoom mode, the crop frame can be used as a ruler when aligning images.
The wanted rotation angle can be entered in the Rotate dialogue box. Changing the rotation of an image usually also means that the sides of the image become angled. Select the Clip Margin check box to zoom in and cut the angled sides. The orientation of the cut can be flipped by selecting the Flip Clip Orientation check box.
Image Composition
When in zoom mode, the horizontal zoom bar can be used to find the right size for working with the wanted part of the image. Select the Crop Image toggle in the vertical tool bar to crop the image. The orientation of the crop frame can be flipped by selecting the Flip Orientation Of The Crop Frame toggle in the vertical toolbar.
Select the Use Crop Frame check box in the Save Image dialogue box to save the reframed image.
Saving Images
A new version of the current image can be saved in the Save Image dialogue box. It is important to keep the original image file when saving a new version of the image. Later versions of the image should always be based on the original image file in order to preserve the highest possible image quality. The Save Image dialogue box will suggest a new unique file name for the new version of the image. The file name and file folder can be changed in the Save Image As dialogue box opened with the Save As button.
When in zoom mode with the crop frame showing, the Use Crop Frame check box can be selected in the Save Image dialogue box to save the cropped image.
Select the Fit To Original Size check box to keep the original image size. Unselect the Fit To Original Size check box to save the image with a new resolution. The aspect ratio between the horizontal and vertical sides of the image will be preserved at any resolution.
When saving a JPEG image, the image quality can be specified on a scale from 1 to 100. An image quality of 100 is the highest possible image quality which also means the least compression of the image file. Lowering the image quality means more file compression and a smaller file size.
When saving a PNG image, the file compression can be specified on a scale from 0 to 9. The highest level of file compression is 9. A high level of file compression results in a smaller file at the cost of slower image processing when the image file is saved.
